This former biscuit factory, Bel & The Dragon Reading certainly has an interesting past. Sitting on the waterfront of the Kennet & Avon Canal, a short distance from the centre of the town, this unique building has been lovingly refurbished to house a vibrantly atmospheric restaurant and bar. The boardwalk and moored boat also provides an ideal waterside setting for alfresco dining.

Group Head Chef, Ronnie Kimbugwe, was previously the Senior Sous Chef of Gordon Ramsay at Claridges. He has worked closely with longstanding Head Chef, Steve Rooney, to create an entirely new menu boasting the finest in modern British cuisine. Both Chefs share a passion for seasonal fare, sourced from local & sustainable ingredients. It is also complemented by the inclusion of a rotisserie for the very best Roast Chicken, Creedy Carver Duck or the signature spit roasted Suckling Pig.

And then there is the Josper Grill, which cooks at up to 600°C and is compared to an indoor barbeque - since it has transformed restaurant kitchens forever, with early converts already including Gordon Ramsay at the Savoy Grill and Heston Blumenthal at Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental.

The wholesale refurbishment has created a uniquely spacious interior featuring a long-bar serving an exciting cocktail list.

Wine lovers are warmly welcome to enjoy an excellent cellar stocked with a wide variety of choices from around the world, with the deliberate inclusion of three special wines at extraordinary prices.
